KIMMIE RHODES – Canopy Theatre, Hungate Church, Beccles Saturday 26th April at 7.30 p.m.

Kimmie RhodesThe Austin Chronicle calls Kimmie Rhodes a “prolific figure in Texas Music.” The Austin-based singer-songwriter has released 16 solo albums, written and produced three musical plays, published a novella/cookbook and a memoir. She blends these unique skills and captivates audiences on stages around the world.

A native Texan, she was inducted into The West Texas Walk Of Fame for her "outstanding contributions in the field of art music and entertainment" in September 2023. While the term is often overused, a “songwriter’s songwriter” truly describes Kimmie, as is evidenced by the people who have sought her out to co-write with her and recorded her songs.

Her early releases led to a series of tours that created a solid fan base in the U.K., Ireland, and across mainland Europe.

Kimmie’s lengthy discography looks like a who’s who of American musicians and songwriters, featuring duets and/or co-written songs with Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris, Joe Ely, Tom Petty, Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, Beth Nielsen-Chapman, Mark Knopfler, Peter Frampton, Trisha Yearwood and more.

Her many TV appearances include an excellent edition of the Austin City Limits show where she shared a “guitar pull” with Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Waylon Jennings and Billy Joe Shaver.

Kimmie is also a playwright and an actress, both of which began with a debut musical “Small Town Girl” for which she later released an album of songs.

Kimmie is an honorary ambassador for the U.K. based Buddy Holly Educational Foundation, whose mission is to honour Buddy’s legacy as well as to fulfil Buddy and Maria Elena Holly’s dream of extending musical education including songwriting, production, arrangements, orchestration, and performance to new generations regardless of income, ethnicity or learning levels.

Kimmie’s newest album of all original songs, “Hypnotized”  was recorded at her own Sunbird Studios and released on March 29 2024, preceded by a “waterfall” of releases that began on January 26 with the title track. She has developed a songwriting-storyteller show which includes a reprise of some of her best work along with some new material that opened in autumn 2022.

Kimmie spends several months each year in her second home in the South of France, writing and performing and making plans for “what happens next.” And from our point of view, that includes her first ever trip to Beccles to perform at the wonderful Canopy Theatre and including a look back at her classic “West Texas Heaven” album which she is currently re-imagining. It is a show that you will not want to miss!!
