SID GRIFFIN – CANOPY THEATRE BECCLES  Saturday 8th February 2025  8.00 p.m.

Sig Griffin Press 2B sml

Sid Griffin has one of the widest ranging and most impressive careers in modern music -  multi- faceted musician, proud author, knowledgeable broadcaster and part time journalist.

A native Kentuckian, he currently resides in England and has popped up in literary circles due to the success of his Million Dollar Bash book on Bob Dylan’s Basement Tapes as well as the follow up Shelter From The Storm about the Rolling Thunder Revue. An acknowledged expert on the musical career of Gram Parsons, Sid also wrote Gram Parsons – A Music Biography and has penned sleeve notes to a large number of CDs including Dolly Parton, The Everly Brothers, Hank Williams and Glen Campbell!

As a musician, Griffin has performed bluegrass mandolin with his acoustic UK band The Coal Porters who have played festivals in many places around the world including Glastonbury, Kilkenny Festival in Ireland and the World Of Bluegrass festival in Kentucky USA.

And, of course, before that there came the legendary founders of alt-country The Long Ryders. Having called time on the band in the late 80’s, Sid reformed them early this century and they are still going strong with their latest album September November”and two recently completed UK tours (for the latter of which they performed seminal album"Native Sons"in full.

As a freelance journalist Sid is a regular contributor to many magazines including Mojo, Rock ‘n’ Reel, and Country Music International and has also been published in The Guardian and Music Week. Sid appears as Resident Musicologist on BBC Radio 6 Music DJ Stuart Maconie’s afternoon show and is frequently heard on late night BBC Radio. He has written several film documentaries and two radio scripts (on Gram Parsons and the Carter Family), the latter narrated by Dolly Parton.

No wonder then that Sid has already won a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2003.

And yes, in between all of this activity Sid still performs very special solo troubadour shows. His solo tour in support of his fourth solo album The Trick Is To Breathe, earned him four and five star reviews globally. Since then he has performed solo in Spain, Italy, the UK, Scandinavia and his native United States.

Sid has been incredibly busy since his first solo show at the Canopy Theatre in January 2024 – a UK/mainland Europe tour with Peter Case, solo shows in the U.S.A. (with more Peter Case shows there too), the afore mentioned Long Ryders UK/EU tour in October 2024, a UK tour supporting The Hanging Stars (promoting his brand new solo album “The Journey From Grape To Raisin” ) and some hugely successful gigs with the reformed Coal Porters!!
