BOB WOOD – CANOPY THEATRE BECCLES Saturday 30th May 2026 7.30 p.m.

Bob Wood

Bob hails from Scotland and lives in London. An engaging solo singer, he’s known also as a nifty finger-style guitarist who performs with an easy-going sense of humour. Adopting a range of open tunings on guitar, he has been described by Steve Tilston as “..one of the deftest pickers and arrangers of songs it has been my pleasure to hear...a real delight.’’

Bob  has made two albums (When the Moon Sits Fat on a Scudding Cloud and After the Swithering) which national folk magazines have called delightful, haunting, reflective and exquisite. Ian McCalman described the first album as “one of my "most played" over the years; surely the greatest reflection of genuine musical appreciation.” He has been busy performing in lots of UK folk clubs this year.

A seasoned and experienced performer, Bob has appeared at countless clubs and festivals. fROOTS magazine said that he “performs with an astonishing degree of virtuosity ... a superbly mellow-voiced singer and outstandingly deft guitarist”

Bob has played on the albums of other artists and has featured on many radio programmes. He has also hosted various guitar workshops, focusing on alternative guitar tunings and song accompaniment.

As a departure from his regular repertoire, he has also recorded, performed and toured the UK and Ireland in duo formation with Benny Gallagher (McGuinness Flint, Gallagher & Lyle). “Every time I sit down and play some music with Bob I come away feeling enriched",says Benny. Bob has also shared a stage with many other notable artists including Dougie Maclean.

Bob's repertoire nowadays contains an array of both contemporary and traditional songs as well as a smattering of pipe, harp and other tunes on guitar. Jez Lowe says that Bob has “a fine ear for songs old and new, a deft way with a guitar and a voice of freshness and mellowness combined.”

This will be Bob’s second visit to the Canopy Theatre and is sure to be yet another great evening of acoustic music at the venue!
