Wind & Strings Folk Workshop Day

For any woodwind instrument, and bowed & plucked melody string instruments

Fun, friendly and welcoming workshops for woodwind and string players, led by experienced professional musicians John Dipper (strings) and Vicki Swan (wind). The day offers an inspirational mix of tutored small group learning and mixed strings/wind playing together.

•  Tunes and harmonies/accompaniments learnt by ear, with sheet music available 

•  Learn how to work out harmonies/accompaniments to enrich and enhance your favourite tunes 

•  Boost your playing confidence and technique, explore British and Swedish folk tunes

The pub has kindly agreed to the use of their back room from 5.00/5.30pm. Food can be purchased from 5.30pm. You will need to park in a town centre car park (free after 6pm). 

A Victorian pub and grade 2 listed building sited where there’s been a licensed premise since 1620.

WORKSHOP VENUE: Beccles Station Cafe & Community Rooms, Station Road, Beccles, NR34 9QJ 

A lovingly restored and refurbished Victorian railway station building which is now home to a social enterprise cafe, tourist information and community rooms. The community rooms are on the ground floor, with disabled access. www.facebook.com/becclesstation


DIRECTIONS 

TRAIN: Beccles is on the Ipswich/Lowestoft train route. 

BUS: Regular buses from Diss, Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft and Norwich. Walk down Station Road. 

CAR: Station Road is off George Westwood Way, easily accessed via A146 (Norwich/Diss/Lowestoft) and the Morrisons roundabout. From the A12/A145 (Ipswich/Lowestoft) you’ll enter the town centre on London Road, go across the junction and turn right by the Public Hall into Station Road.

PARKING

Limited parking by the station is intended for rail users. The nearest long stay car park is Blyburgate, NR34 9TB, approx. 5-10 min walk. All day costs £3.50. Machines take cash (no change).

From Station Road: turn right in front of the railway station onto Gosford Road. Go past Beccles Tile & Bathroom Centre and turn right towards ROYS shop. Drive through free customer parking area to the Pay & Display section.

LUNCH: Bring your own, or visit a local eatery. Station Cafe will be open. 

The town Centre is 10 minutes’ walk up Station Road where there are several cafes/restaurants in the main shopping area/market place. There’s Fish & Chips place on Smallgate (top of Station Road). Alternatively, Lidl, Morrisons and Tesco on George Westwood Way sell lunchtime snacks.

WHERE TO STAY: Beccles is an historic market town on the Norfolk/Suffolk border. It is on the river Waveney and is approx. 9 miles from Southwold and the Suffolk coast. There are hotels, B&B, camping/glamping facilities within easy reach.
